+253 In most contexts, it's kinda dumb getting butthurt over calling the USA America. It's the only American country that actually has 'America' in it's name, and if you were going to some other American country, you specify, for example, "I'm going to Brazil" There's almost never any real confusion outside official documents, so it's not unreasonable to just call the US America in casual speech or online, amirite?

Thing is you're the only ones that call the US America, the rest of us refer to you as the United States

Don't a lot of people over there also call it the states?

I've called it either the States or the US. I use the word American to describe things rather than calling the country America. I'm not against calling the country America since it is the only place that people call America.

No, the rest of the outside does not refer to us as the United States. They refer to us as Amerika. Also, I'm pretty sure very few people actually get butthurt about that.

lol Amerika

It bugs me that the states, in a sense, doesn't really even have a name. Canada is a name, if it were called the united provinces and territories of America it wouldn't be 'right' in essence.

This is one of my pet peeves. I hate when someone says "blah blah blah America..." and someone else is like "OH, YOU MEAN THE US?! BECAUSE THERE IS A NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA WITH LOTS OF COUNTRIES SO I WASN'T SURE WHICH YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT OMG I'M SO GOOD AT GEOGRAPHY!" I swear the next time somebody says that to me I'm going to tell them I meant Brazil.
