-172 People get outraged when they go to a concert and find out that the singer lip synced. But if there wasn't lip syncing, the songs would sound worse, especially if the singer is dancing. We should stop bitching, amirite?

Why would you spend $80+ to hear music you already have?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Maybe to see them in person.

"People come for the communal experience. They know the music, they're in the milieu of others who know it well. Everyone is participating with the singer and band. It's part of the experience. It's not like like an orchestra concert where you sit and listen and absorb the music. You're singing along and dancing." - Mary Davis, professor of music history at Case Western University in Cleveland.

I saw Usher in concert and since he was dancing a lot, he was a little out of breath but he still sang really good. I think that out of breath sound made him sound cooler because it made him seem like a real person and not just the same way he sounds on the radio.

really well*

I see what you're getting at. This applies especially to pop singers who dance during their whole song. When someone goes to see one of those artist they expect to see them dance. Yeah, we wanna see some live singing too, but I don't know of many people who would go see Shakira without her shaking her booty.

Well, it depends what you want, and also who's performance you going to. For example, if you want to hear an artist for their great live voice, Katy Perry might not be your first choice.

Katy perry actually has good shows. She does have a good live voice and she can dance without making her voice sound bad. It is possible to sing and dance well at the same time.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@musical: She sang live on SNL & sounded horrible.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Hey fuck you both. I love Katie Perry..

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@GiggityGoo22: If you really loved her you would know how to spell her first name.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@k_ninja It also depends on the stereo systems used. A professional venue is definitely going to have better stereo systems than SNL will ever have

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You're right oops. I love her music, there.

If they have no natural talent, I wouldint want to support them.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not even the best singers can sing perfectly while dancing

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Perhaps artists just shouldn't try to perform outside of their skill level? I listen to a lot of music in which the musicians play inhumanly well, but they still manage to perform up to that level live. It's not impossible, so there's no reason not to simply get better at your craft before putting out certain music.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Usually it's not that they're trying to perform outside of their skill level, it's just that they're dancing and walking around, which makes it hard to hold a note.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

... I've noticed you posted the same comment like 6 times. And it's wrong. I'm in marching band, right? I play a wind instrument. Ordinarily, walking and playing, yes, results in a "daaAAAAaaaaAAA" sound back and forth. There's this thing called 'rolling your steps'. It's easily and subtley done, and since it reduces impact and separates your lower/upper body, you CAN hold a note. Even singing. The singers might not know this, but it's possible. Check and mate.

I'd rather just want to watch the performer stand in one place and sing rather than have them dance around.

If they’re a singer, they should be able to sing… that’s their skill. If they can’t even sing why are people going to see them in the first place?? Totally get why people would be irritated, especially if they were expecting live singing.
