+243 J. K. Rowling unnecessarily killed off a bunch of awesome characters in the last Harry Potter book, amirite?

Just go back to MLIA. Seriously.

She actually had good reasons for why she killed off certain people

Yeah killing that voldemort guy was pointless

She was writing realistically. Sometimes, in a war, the people who deserve it the least get the worst.

It was war and there had to be casualties.

I understand the need for casualties in war, but Lupin had the shittiest death ever.

That's one of the things that makes the books good, she wasn't afraid to kill some good characters off. I'm glad the series didn't have a sappy perfect ending.

I kind of agree because a lot of my favorite characters died. But if nobody important or likable died, it would be Twilight, not Harry Potter, and that would be worse.

It wasn't unecessary; the death's made us more emotionally invested in the story, and showed a realistic portrayal of war, one where fighters from both sides are killed. I still got sad over every single death, and I cry over Fred and the scene with the Resurrection Stone EVERY time, but I've accepted that they were necessary.

They were necessary to express Rowling's point- that people, no matter how superhuman or powerful they appear to be, will always be people, and no amount of "magic" or anything else changes human nature. People are weak, and they suffer and they make mistakes and they do horrible things to each other. People destroy and they fall and they die. She had to kill off people - almost all of them - to remind us that humanity cones at a cost, in every form.
