Perhaps the kid was caught fucking the dog, and the child's response was "But we are in love!"... If not kill it, send it to the pound.

But the dog was probably just lying there like "lolwut?" It's kinda unfair to make it die/leave home because of some mentally unbalanced kid.

Right, but you don't have to inflict pain to be cruel. Is it okay to murder a random victim if you do it so that they don't feel pain? I'm not usually gung ho about animal rights, but putting an animal to sleep when it's not sick or dying is absolutely cruel.
