I once had a friend who lived in the worst part of town and he knew it. Robberies, rape, a few homicides over the years, and a few other things. I told him I was sorry and he wasn't offended...
I agree with iamthewalrus. I live in Alabma, and no one here considers Florida the South. Florida isn't really full of rednecks. People there don't have a heavy accent. Florida does not fit the South's stereotype.
technically florida is in the south east. but what i'm saying in general is that for the most part when people make southern remarks, they're not thinking of florida
"I live in a trash can in the town dump"
"I'm sorry."
"What do you mean you're sorry? That's not appropriate! I love that trash can!"
What if they tell you they live next door to a pedophile?
I recently met a guy from North Dakota... it felt like the only acceptable response.
That is the state I was thinking about when I wrote this post. Weird!
Arizona too. It's 109 degrees out right now at 11 in the morning. Sometimes it gets up to around 115 to 125.

It is if you live where I live.
It is if they say, "I'm live in___, unfortunately," the correct response would be I'm sorry.
It is if you live in the south.

Arizona and California are in the West. Florida is the south, it was part of Dixie.
I live in Florida... it doesn't get any farther south...
but when people say "the South" it's usually understood Florida is not part of it, just like arizona and california
It still doesn't get any more south, except for the bottom of Texas.
Ocala does... You all are only thinking of the coast.
I'm just saying that the stereotypes of Florida are way different than the ones of the South.
I was just making fun of the south. You guys take it so serious.
I agree with you 100%. The South is horrible; well at least it is to me.
I don't get it
"You live in Milwaukee? Oh, I'm sorry."
People can be as sorry for me as they want for living in Utah. i hate it
