+69 Illegal immigrants have no "rights" and they should not be given the right to legally work here (America) while still illegal, Amirite?

I think any criminal on the run etc should have no rights. It will prevent them from running.

The post has a misguided understanding of rights. A right is something a person has that cannot be taken away from them. Likewise, you can't just give someone a right.

No one can take away your rights, but you can relinquish them yourself. For example, I relinquish my right to freedom by murdering someone and getting sent to jail. Some people can relinquish their rights by going to another country illegally, etc, etc.

Right (no pun intended), but there are some rights that can't be relinquished, like the right to a fair trial. Besides, the point of the post is that we should take rights away.

Okay, yeah. He should be tried for being an illegal immigrant, which he would get sent to jail for.

If someone has struggled and saved every day of their life to live somewhere better, has a family to provide for and is qualified and willing to do a job, they don't deserve it over the person who has nothing to bring to the job, asks for more money, sits at home complaining about how immigrants are taking all the jobs as an excuse not to bother applying, but was born in that country completely outside either persons control, amirite?

Youre ignoring the fact that they are illegal. They could have gone through the immigration process but they chose to break the law instead.

I am ignoring that, if they could have gone through the immigration process as easily as you're implying, they would have, they didn't //choose// to be an illegal immigrant. If people weren't so focussed on making their own country great by keeping foreigners out and spent a little more time considering themselves a citizen of humanity, maybe we could make the world better, and immigration wouldn't be an issue for anyone.

If they're as awesome as you say, why would hey have trouble going through customs?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That is literally the stupidest question I have ever been asked. Have you ever tried to migrate to another country? Are you under the impression that you just have to tick the box that says "Yes" underneath the question "Would you like to live in America?"? I didn't say that illegal immigrants each had 40 years of experience as a lawyer, I said that they had worked their whole life to get into another country, and do you know how that looks on an immigration form? They don't give a fuck, unless you can prove that you're some kind of foreign superhero.

If they want to live in America don't you think it's reasonable that they follow our laws? They are blatantly breaking the law and it seems as though you're supporting them. Please correct me if I misunderstood your take on the issue

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes I do think they should follow your laws, yes they are breaking the law, but yes I am supporting them. I don't like immigration laws, I don't like to see humanity as a bunch of separate countries. Maybe I am misinformed, but I think anyone who is willing to do a job for any amount of money, regardless of where that job is and where that person was born, should have a chance of getting the job. People complain all the time that foreigners (legal or otherwise) are taking the jobs of people who rightfully live there, but the foreigners are not to blame. Employers are giving jobs to people who will work for the least money because they're greedy.

I agree illegal immigrants undermine the immigration process. Anyone who breaks the law should be punished not rewarded.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's not that easy.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think if they agree to give something back, they can be granted work here. Like maybe if they do military work, enroll in college, agree to pay taxes, or something of that nature. In other words, there should be some kind of amnesty. Also, what if they came here when they were just a baby and grew up with our customs and in our school system? They should not be penalized because their parents are the ones that brought them illegally, and they really did nothing wrong.

This is ridiculous. Of course they have rights, they are human beings and rights are intrinsic to human beings regardless of citizenship status. Whether or not they have the legal right to work here depends on your definition of "work". Laws here are pretty contradictory- illegal inhabitants can legally own their own businesses and hire other people, but they are not permitted to get a job at someone else's business. They can also do one-time jobs, just like children are allowed to work for money in that way. Like other people have said, it's incredibly difficult to legally immigrate. Being allowed to support themselves so that they and their families won't starve is not being "rewarded". It's a necessity and sometimes staying where they were was simply not an option.

He's talking of rights as in entitlements. The word "right" is so misused it's crazy
