Despite being filthy rich, Bill Gates seems like a good person, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
The two things aren't mutually exclusive. Being filthy rich does not make it more difficult to be a good person. It's not as though to be decent he had to overcome his wealth.

I know it's not mutually exclusive but many people have this notion that to become rich, you have to be ruthless and mean.

Also sometimes when people have an excessive amount of money it's because they cheated people like a con artist or they cut corners at someone else's expense. Thankfully the richest man in the world got that way from ingenuity and honest hard work.

Why do you start this with "despite being filthy rich"
by Anonymous12 years ago
Many people think that to become rich, you have to be heartless and shady. I think Bill Gates defy that stereotype very strongly.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I think the stereotype is that being rich makes you heartless and shady but anyway, if you know it's not true why'd you start it off with "despite"
by Anonymous12 years ago
Maybe, but either way he defies the stereotype. Obviously, stereotypes aren't true 100 percent, and generally many rich people are shady and heartless. I just think it's a breath of fresh air that the second richest man in the world (second because he has given away A LOT of money) defies that stereotype so drastically.

Actually there's research that indicates that people in the finance industry become less and less moral the more advanced they get in their careers.

Yeah, he gives money to charity all the time.
by Anonymous12 years ago
He is. He is statistically the most charitable man on the planet
by Anonymous12 years ago
Maybe he is really good at acting.
by Anonymous12 years ago
He's one of the most charitable men on the planet. Acting or not, that's a kind thing to do.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I suppose that's true.
by Anonymous12 years ago
If I were that rich, I would like, do the charity thing first but then fill a pool with $5 notes (Australia) and swim. Just for shits and giggles, it will be like a safer Scrooge McDuck (diving head first into piles of metal coins doesn't seem all too good of an idea).
