Agnostics are just atheists without balls, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
lolno
by Anonymous12 years ago
Atheists believe that God absolutely //does not// exist.
Agnostics believe that He might exist, but don't really care either way.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Well, I'm Agnostic and I simply think that no one really knows anything.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Wait, so basically what you said.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Agnostics acknowledge the possibility of a god existing or not existing, but it's not that they don't care, it's that they don't know.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yeah, exactly. Like, I guess //some// might think he may exist and don't care, but I think they lean more towards atheism than anything else.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Well, atheists generally acknowledge that it's a possibility that a god exists, but don't believe that one does.
by Anonymous12 years ago
There's theism, agnostic theism, agnosticism, agnostic atheist, and atheism. And some other extremes but those aren't important here.
You're thinking of agnostic atheism.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yeah, atheists claim to //know// that there is no god. They in no way acknowledge it.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Pardon? I'm an atheist, and I acknowledge the possible existence of a deity, but I pay my heed to the possibilities and I believe that the possibility of a god not existing is greater than one existing.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Ah, I see. I'm said that on behalf of my friends who say they are atheists. This is what all of them have told me- that they absolutely reject the possibility of there being a god at all.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I don't think any intelligent atheist actually believes there is //zero// chance of a deity existing, just that the chance is infinitesimally small so living your life devoted to that is ridiculous.
by Anonymous12 years ago
...so you're saying that atheists who absolutely reject the idea of a god are not intelligent?
by Anonymous12 years ago
If by "reject the idea of a god" you mean believe 100% that a deity does not exist, then, well, yes.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Well I don't believe that necessarily means you are not intelligent, but it's a lot less reasonable.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I suppose it's more to do with common sense than intelligence.
by Anonymous12 years ago
No, agnosticism simply deals with knowledge or rather lack thereof. Anyone who claims to know fully is an idiot or an extremist. The logical position is agnosticism because no one can know.
Atheism, or theism deals with belief. Atheism, is accepted by most (generalized here) as lacking a belief. This is different from believing that god doesn't exists. The first is also known as weak atheism. The latter, strong atheism. The first listen to any claims made and says "prove it". The second makes claims of his own. The second is usually just as bad as those claiming god does exists.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm agnostic, and my belief is that if there's a god who wants me to know that they exist, then they'd have given me a sign. So far, no sign. Either god doesn't exist, or they see no reason for me to know they exist. Because I don't see following one person's ideas of morality should have to do with my probability of getting into a "heaven" if a god wanted me there. A god wouldn't have made me rational if they didn't want doubt.
by Anonymous12 years ago
"A god wouldn't have made me rational if they didn't want doubt."
Anon, that line is absolutely fantastic. Well done.
by Anonymous12 years ago
My grandmother said the exact same thing. And then said she felt the same way about independents really being democrats with balls. Man I love that woman, so glad I get some genetics from her.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I personally am grateful I //didn't// get any genes from her.
by Anonymous12 years ago
how exactly is an independent a democrat with balls?
by Anonymous12 years ago
There's such a thing as an agnostic theist.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Wow, really? What exactly is that?
Oh, and that's not sarcasm, I'm genuinely curious.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's similar to agnostic atheism. Agnostic atheist pretty much believe that there isn't a God but no one can //know//. Agnostic theism is basically the opposite where they believe that there's a god but they also acknowledge that no one knows for sure.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Agnostic theism is "I'm not sure if there's a God, but I believe in it."
Similarly, agnostic atheism is "I'm not sure if there's a God, but I don't believe in it."
Agnosticism is in the precise middle of that. It's "I don't know, and that's that."
by Anonymous12 years ago
They believe there is a God, but that's as far as it goes. They think it makes sense that there had to be a higher power, but don't dwell on what he would want, worship etc.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Actually I do have guts or "balls" in my beliefs simply saying " I dont know" is gutsy in itself. Us agnostics take just as much as grief as atheists and i still chose to voice my belief. Thats pretty ballsy.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Personally, I think it's arrogant for humans to assume they know how the universe was created.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Can we use observable evidence to tell us what existed before the universe?
My point was that humans are insignificant if you compare us to the universe and stating our theories as 100% fact is arrogant. There are many things we don't understand and will probably never understand.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Hi, Colbert! I've noticed you're new here.
I guess I should give you a heads-up that down-voting all opposing comments is extremely callow. We try to avoid that here on amirite.net.
Enjoy your stay!
by Anonymous12 years ago
I was wondering why all of his downvotes had seemed to disappear.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Hahaha, wow seriously? I didn't even notice that!
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yeah, I was looking through my comments and noticed his downvote disappeared. My first thought was "someone must have called him out..."
by Anonymous12 years ago
Haha, that's hilarious. And now he's going to get all of these notifications of us talking shit. Too bad he can't delete our comments like you can on Facebook...
So sad.
by Anonymous12 years ago
IF YOU CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT, DON'T MAKE AN AMIRITE POST!
by Anonymous12 years ago
I think it's hilarious how all of our emoticons are simultaneously laughing.
by Anonymous12 years ago
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's almost as if we're... laughing //at// him!
by Anonymous12 years ago
In your original comment, you tried to warn OP about being callow. He, probably realizing you were right, undid his mistake. Instead of moving on, you continued to mock him and make an ass out of yourself.
Tl;dr version: You gave him advice, and laughed at him for taking it.
by Anonymous12 years ago
...Weren't you turned to stone?
Also, I think it's more likely that OP undid his downvotes because he was called out on it, not because "Oh, I apologize, let me fix that "
by Anonymous12 years ago
Be careful of making assumptions. Neither of us really know his intentions. OhMyTicTac tried to welcome OP to the site, but probably ended up scaring him away.
by Anonymous12 years ago
While I agree you should be careful of assumptions, that's always been my experience with users who something like that.
If he didn't realize, then I apologize to OP. Good on you for listening.
If he can't handle one comment like that, this honestly probably isn't the best site. He shouldn't leave, I don't think he will since he was on fifteen minutes ago, but this site has a lot of people that will gladly say things like OhMyTicTac. I don't think either one of us were attacking OP (at least not on purpose), most of this comment thread were jokes we were continuing.
by Anonymous12 years ago
In OhMyTicTac's words, he was "talking shit". Sites like these are only as good as their community and first impressions go a long way.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Okay, Discord. You've got two things wrong.
Firstly, I was being completely sarcastic when I "welcomed" him to the site.
Secondly, you twisted my words. I did not say //he// was talking shit, but that he was going to look back on our comments and see that //we// were talking shit on his post.
Using your own logic, check the context of a comment before you make assumptions as well.
by Anonymous12 years ago
1) Sarcastically welcoming him to the site arguably makes you seem like more of an ass. Downvoting comments you disagree with doesn't make you callow.
2) I was refering to you when I said "he".
by Anonymous12 years ago
I am an asshole.
And you did not include the "he" in quotation marks.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Ooohhhh, you think I'm a //guy//.
That's hilarious.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Today I learned I'm supposed to do research to find irrelevant and unimportant details about some self-acclaimed asshole on the internet. I'm going to stop responding, since you seemed to have given up on making any real point.
by Anonymous12 years ago
...simply reading a comment is not what I'd call research. But okay.
And I was stating a simple fact. //Obviously// you thought I was a guy since you said "he". I mean, that's just common sense.
by Anonymous12 years ago
You turned this into bickering between little girls. It's beside the point to argue over the fact that I called you a man. The main point was that you were being an asshole, which you agree with. There's nothing left to argue over.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm not arguing over the fact that you called me a man. I was simply pointing that out. You're just continuing an argument that was practically pointless in the first place.
So was //that// really your last comment, or are you going to prolong this "discussion"?
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm all set.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Wouldn't an atheist without balls just be a female atheist?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Well, technically with that line of thinking, it would be a chick with a dick.
Can't forget about that penis part.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Then literally, all female atheists are actually agnostics.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Not so much without balls as much as with ignorance of what atheism is
