+100 It's strange that gravity is weaker than magnetism by a huge margin, amirite?

Gravity is weaker than everything, though. It does seem weird at first

I always thought gravity was just as strong as everything, but spread out over infinity, so it just seems weak. Electromagnetism is also infinite, but its concentrated into bands.

Idk why someone downvoted you for that. You're right. As far as it goes though, it is considered the weakest force, and it's only strong between two masses of large quantity

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why? Gravity only exists because mass exists. Magnetism the force between two opposing charges wanting to "neutralize" each other. And when things in physics want something, it happens. To make your weight, the masses needed are the mass in you and the ENTIRE mass of the earth, which is quite massive.

Are you saying OP is wrong and that gravity is larger? Because think about it: You can hold up a paperclip with a tiny magnet. The force that tiny magnet has is stronger than the gravity the ENTIRE earth exerts on the paperclip. Gravity is a very weak force, and if it were stronger, then the universe would have collapsed back on itself before it even began.

I dunno... It may have been sooner, but inflation may be able to hold off the Big Crunch for a while.

Saturnlite88: No, I'm saying gravity is much smaller. It takes the entire mass of the earth to hold you down, but only a little tiny weak magnet to hold a paper clip up.

The whole idea of life is fucking weird let alone what we observe in it.

magnetic force is incredibly proportional to the cube of distance its effectiveness drops easy to quickly.
