+193 Sometimes when you hear tourists talking about your country, your only thoughts are "are we even thinking of the same place?", amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Especially South Africa. O.o I dont get it. :/

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Haha, I actually made this because two British girls on my Twitter timeline were talking about America, and one of them said, "Everyone is so nice!" and I was like "no"

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I dont think any country really has just friendly people.... except maybe Canada? haha :D

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Hahaha! True, I've never been but that's pretty much the stereotype it seems... I'll have to find out someday

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Fuck you. I'm a nice Canadian.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

bahaha. nice

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Anon, I think they meant that Canada is the only place with nice people lol

by Anonymous 11 years ago

His post is pretty ironic too though. He is telling me he is a nice Canadian, in a very rude manner. haha maybe that was his goal? who knows. :D

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You're probably right seeing as I'm oblivious to everything and didn't even make that connection until you said it lol

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think it's because when you see someone from another country, you're curious and interested. So you automatically act nicer towards them. That's probably why tourists always say that. They don't how we act towards people that are just "normal" in our eyes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually, NYers are freakishly nice to tourists because we like to make a good impression for our city. As for everyone else, we're apathetic. Some people do have attitude problems, but you would have to provoke them.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Haha, I love New York, but yeah, I wouldn't exactly say that they're nice to tourists

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What I've found is that people that live in a big city are not nice, but people who live in suburbs or towns are mostly nice.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Hm, I feel that generally people toward the south are nicer than the north, but there are good and bad people wherever you go. My dad told me about this girl he knows who moved from a small southern town to NYC and she couldn't take the culture shock

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's deffinetly true there are good and bed people where ever you go. I think there tends to be a higher concentration of nicer people to the south and west in America because thats where there are less towns.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Agreed. West and south are definitely more friendly

by Anonymous 11 years ago

West coast :)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i'm sorry i can't take you guys seriously saying people in the south are more friendly. maybe if you're a straight white christian who votes republican. beyond that now

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm not talking about the deep south. What I mean is that wherever you go, people will say hi and ask how are you or they're more willing to help with things. You don't get that in New York or Jersey. Where in the south are you talking about? Just curious

by Anonymous 11 years ago

just the general bible belt. i used to live there and i would say on average the people where i live now are more nice. the people in the south may be friendlier though

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Ohhh, okay. I haven't been too far into the bible belt, but the states I have been in haven't really been like that. Never lived there though, so you definitely have more experience with it haha

I think people to the northwest (and west, actually) tend to be more accepting of different people. If you're openly gay in the South you'll likely get a lot more crap about it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Whoa, okay, we're not turning this into a discussion of acceptance of gays. Don't rage at me, there's enough of those posts on this site. I mean for tourists, not necessarily for people living there.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Whoa, I'm not raging, just relaying an observation that I thought had some relevance to the comments. Nor was I attempting to jump start a discussion about the acceptance of gays. I apologize if it came off as aggressive.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Naw, I'm in a bad mood today and I realized after I made that comment that I sounded like a dick, so I apologize

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We can all just agree that the northwest is the best, right? ;)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's no problem. And I may be a bit biased, coming from the northwest myself. Though I do have to admit that drivers around here have a pretty terrible reputation hehe

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Do they? the most bad drivers I've ever seen in one place is california. they're all terrible. I would say some pacific northwesters are pretty bad when theres even just a dusting of snow, but other than that I've never noticed.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My cousin grew up in Oregon but she's out on the east coast for uni, and she says the driving out here is so much more aggressive than what she's used to. She lives in Boston, though, so it might be worse than usual in the city.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I find people like that talking about Chicago, and I'm always like, "Not that special. Barely even windy, really."

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I live near DC, so whenever we go there, we see all these tourists taking pictures of the most pointless and least significant parts of it.
