I think Robert Downey Jr's character, like just about everything in that movie, was a really funny //idea//, that never quite delivered. It was kind of like a joke with no punchline.

It's one of my favorite movies ever. I think it's one of the few movies with a whole bunch of big stars that is actually good and is still good after multiple viewings. "What do you mean "you people?" "What do //you// mean "you people?"

It's not an awful movie, in fact that part you just quoted I also thought was really funny. The movie has its moments, I won't deny that. As I mentioned, I just feel like it was a funny idea for a movie, but wasn't really funny in it's execution. And the big action sequence at the end was like a parody of mediocre movies that became a mediocre movie itself.
