You find it hard to compliment a guy because saying "You're cute" might be interpreted differently, "You're hot" sounds shallow and "You're handsome" just sounds too formal. Amirite?
Adorable is something most guys don't wanna be called. It's like, "Aww, the adorable little puppy is chasing a lizard. Awwww." I would much rather be called cute than adorable
Haha, yes I am aware of that too. But then again, think about it. Adorable, root word: adore.
Adore means to have great love or respect for someone. Adorable means lovely or delightful or charming. If you're someone to be adored, it should be a great honour. A person thinks that you are lovely, in terms of companion or just a charming person overall. Yes, it may also mean to be lovable in a childlike manner but really, for me, if I say adorable.. like I said, you are the most beautiful person to me.
I personally don't like being called cute, because I worry that it means cute in a little kid way. I would actually be really flattered if someone called me handsome, though
This really depends on the guy. Some guys hate being called cute, but I like it when my girlfriend calls me cute. Then again, I'm a bit narcissistic, so I like any complement. :)
Socially awkward penguin.
Actually, I've realised that I call guys 'adorable' too. When I say that, I actually think you are the most beautiful thing I've seen in my life.

I use attractive.
Yeah, but depending on your tone of voice (if it is not spot-on) it will sound like you're sarcastic.
What's cookin', good lookin? ;D
As an official penis-person, I would like to say that I appreciate any compliment given to me.
lol'd at the "official penis person".
"Wow I certainly wouldn't mind having sex with you."
I do like calling guys handsome, it's just the response they give. They're just like, "uh.. thanks."

I am yet to master every social cue, but when I call a guy cute, I think he's good looking. Not in a little kid way.
"you look nice"
Just tell him he looks Fergalicious.
I usually end up going with "cute" or "adorable" for the exact reasons you listed
Especially if you're a guy - then you just sound gay O_O
you look good :)
As a boy in highschool I think being called handsome is a great compliment. I actually prefer it over other adjectives.
I call my boyfriend handsome and I think he likes it

How about... 'delicious'?
I usually compliment them different ways. "Your hair looks great that way!" "That shirt looks really great on you!" "You look nice today"
