I know my wife *acts* as if she loves me. However, I'm not omnipotent. I don't really know she loves me.

I **know** my gf loves me. Her smiling eyes. The way she says my name and how often she skypes me, everyday before bed. The silly romantic things she says when she is loopy on Vicodin or about to fall asleep. The way she holds me and the silly way she kisses me. How she bought my brand of deodorant to smell me when we are apart. She loves me. But I still want her to say it.

It sounds like you have a wonderful gf. I do not doubt she loves you. However, you are interpreting her actions... not reading her mind. She could momentarily covert your neighbor's stuff, and you wouldn't know it.

The point isn't HOW I know it. The point is that I enjoy interacting with her on a personal level, sharing in things that we already know, talking to each other and hearing our voices. There are levels of interaction, and they are not all the same. The idea behind vocalized prayer isn't that we need to speak to be heard, but because it is more personal, more passionate, more concrete than fluttering thoughts. My gf could just make a heart with her hands or smile at me, and those are powerful symbols, but there is a force behind language that cannot be found elsewhere. So yes, my relationship with her may all be farce, or I don't know what she is always thinking, but even if I did know what she was thinking every second, I would still want her to personally include me in those thoughts by sharing them with me.

Praying is a conscious effort made to connect to God. It's not as meaningful if it's a passive thought.

praying shouldn't be for selfish things such as 'winning' or asking for things. it should be about connecting to god or whatever you believe in and he will return the prayers with signs of acknowledgement not 'prizes'

@flying... Me too. :-) You're suggesting God is more likely to pay attention to you if you pray, correct? I just can't understand why an omnipotent, omnipresent God would do that. To me he sounds more like a human than a God.
