+156 If it's okay for guys to walk around shirtless, it should be okay for girls to walk around in their bras, amirite?

women have the right to go topless in canada, there is is woman in my town that goes topless in public all over town every summer, she is about 50 yrs old.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

In Canada, it's legal for women to go topless but it is frowned upon in society.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Now I have a mission to move to Canada and tweak the culture a bit there. Turn that frown upside-down! jolly

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Same with Maine.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We, or at least my city, has this parade type thing downtown where women walk shirtless.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Mine too! Well, it was more of a protest, and it only happened once.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It is okay. You'll just have to face the social consequences.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's not the same. Girls have boobs, a sexual part, under their shirts. Also, only guys with 'eye candy' bodies can be topless in public without any stigma.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But if you're wearing a bra, all the sexual parts are covered up. I mean, you can show cleavage in a shirt as much as you can in a bra and besides that, it's just your stomach and back.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Did you know the primary function of boobs is to feed offspring, and not for sex? The more you know!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I meant it would be like a guy walking around in just underpants, not shirtless. The sexual part is covered then too, but it's still offensive. I agree that in a perfect world, girls should be allowed to, but with all the people who are almost rapists, it might push them over the edge. There's no reason to do something like that, so you'd be willing to run the risk of setting off some psycho just to prove a point? And yes, I knew that. That's the reason men find them so attractive. According to non-scientific logic, the larger the boobs, the more mammary glands are present, therefore the man's children will not starve. The brain translates this logic into sexual desire. That, in turn, makes boobs just as arousing as the actual reproductive organ. I think people find exposed legs attractive because it exposes more skin close to the reproductive organ. Same for boobs, which is why the midriff is also arousing.

First, men already walk around in their underpants, i.e. speedos, and it's kind of socially acceptable. I don't know why people would get offended; just don't look. It's a part of life that doesn't really need to be censored. They should be able to wear whatever they want, as long as they're covered. Secondly, your rape claim is far out there. If a rapist wanted to rape, a shirt won't stop him.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well, if you're going into speedos, I'd like to remind you of bikinis. Swim suits follow a separate set of rules. I never said it was offensive. I just think it's kind of dumb to expose yourself like that, for no particular reason. I don't even think it should be necessary to cover boobs. If the social norm changes, then boobs won't be as arousing anymore because they're a common sight. ANd I said ALMOST rapists. People who are teetering on the edge, but don't know it. The surprise might just set them off. These things must be done slowly. Ankles used to be extremely arousing, but now you're not shocked to see half the thigh. Cleavage is also quite common. But this haoppened over decades, even centuries. If we all suddenly did away with tops, there would probably be a spike in rape until it becomes a common sight. But are those girls' mental health worth achieving a goal faster?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh my god your claims are so far out there. Bras cover everything except the tops of boobs, which is exactly basically what a tanktop covers. Just the stomach is exposed. Do you get the fact that you won't be seeing any boobs? At all? Muscular guys are seen are the time but their appeal is still very much there. No one is an ALMOST rapist, what the hell is that anyway? "Should I rape today? Nah, I'm not in the mood", like what? Rapist are people who seek power, the end. People who are deranged enough to rape (I'm talking about alleyway rape here) are not doing it for the sexual pleasure; it's just an extra perk. You make it seem like seeing a girl in a bra suddenly turns on a switch that makes someone go "I WANT TO RAPE NOW", which is not true. This brings us to the very important fact that what you wear hardly ever determines if you'll get raped.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

By 'almost rapist' I mean mentally unstable. Like a cone standing on it's tip. I nthe same way that intense bullying can drive a mentally unstable kid to school shooting, this sort of thing can set off a mentally unstable man to rape. Mentally unstable people don't know they're unstable, but htey are. Jsut like I don't know if I'm carrying a carcinogenic gene, but exposed to a certain intensity of X rays, it might activate and give me cancer. I think I may not have made my point clear. THe midriff is arousign because few people show it in their everyday lives. THe cleavage is considerably less arousing because every other girl is showing hers. If fashion slowly changes over generations, clothes may be only used for warmth or a mobile shelter, lie raincoats. The point is that we're not quite there yet, and sudden implementation of this rule may lead to a lot of negative repercussions. I (i na non-perverted way) would support this sort of thing if it made the female population happy. If you notice, a my seemingly chauvinistic views are only because of the general state of society.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Those at the tipping point are rare, and I doubt a bra serves as a strong enough trigger. Even if it did, I'm sure there are mentally unstable people out there with a strong foot fetish but I'm not going to stop wearing flip-flops. There might be mentally unstable people who are triggered by the color red but I'm not going to just dress in black every day. Yes, there may be negative repercussions, but it's not up to you to protect someone else from themselves. We can all agree there's nothing inherently wrong about wearing a bra in public. The girl would know the repercussions and choose accordingly. There are people who get boobs tattooed on themselves, and there's nothing inherently wrong, but they know what they're getting themselves into. We don't need a ban on getting a tattoo of boobs, and don't need a ban on wearing a bra in public.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm fine with it if they know what they're getting themselves into, and accept the consequences, but the problem is, they know they're being a tease to people who may or may not be able to take it, and then sue (which is the right thing to do, but it might be like entrapment for someone mentally unstable). I'm pretty sure there have been real incidents like the one that happened with Kramer and the 'Braless Wonder' on Seinfeld. As of now, there are a lot of people who want to pull shit like this and the only way to slow (not stop) things down is for a temporary law to be put in place.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No. I'll get offended if I see someone wearing a swastika shirt, other people will definitely get triggered into severe violence, but I will never support a law banning swastika shirts. As long as someone's genitals are covered, I don't give a shit what they choose to wear, and simply do not get why another person would either. It doesn't directly harm anyone, therefore it's not a crime. Putting in laws for these things are an infringement of freedom and a waste of precious time.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah. I don't support the law either. I'm just saying it would reduce a lot of stuff. It's one of those 'I don't want to, but I want the option to' things.

its legal for girls to go topless in new York

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You kind of can wear bras in public now, due to the 'bra-let' trend. You know, the tops that look like a crop top and all those 12 year old hipster sluts wear them. So you know, it is socially acceptable these days.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

slut-shaming

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Tbh, I don't even care.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's what they call themselves

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Women can be topless in New York. I remember driving right past the dyke parade
