+202 It's very awkward when people start giving you life's advice and don't understand that having different backgrounds means you may not have the same opportunities that they had, and that the whole "life is there to live and have fun, do what you want to do" thing only applies to the privileged, amirite?

You don't have to spend money to have fun.

You're right, you dont but sometimes money CAN make you happier in the sense that life is easier. All of my friends are going off to College soon and I come from a large family and cannot afford it, but my friends dont seem to understand that and say "aaw dont worry! youll be fine!". If we had more money I would be happier.

Oh. Some girl who went to my school had sick elderly parents and they weren't well off at all. She filled out several scholorship forms a week and had so much money just from scholorships to have a free ride and had money left over for a car. There are ways to get more money but it takes hard work.

No but you need money to pay rent and to eat. The fact that you think money is needed for fun rather than living is kind of proving my point :P. @Juliaface the scholarship programmes here are pretty much shit. The most I can get is not even enough to pay for a meal a day, and there are way too many loopholes in the system which forbid me from getting more social support (Oh, you managed to save enough money to maybe afford paying for heating this winter? We're sorry, no financial aid for you!).

I live in New Zealand and they have a college scholarship for lesbians, yes thats right. if i was a lesbian id get $3000 towards my tuition. I'm considering lying about being straight.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You totally should.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's ridiculous no, the lesbian scholarship thing.

Maybe it's a way of compensating? I'm not saying this is right, but in India, about 50% of college seats are reserved for lower class people because they get less opportunities.

I dont see how lesbians would get less opportunities though in terms of finance or education. Your sexuality really does not make a difference when it comes to tertiary education.

Huh. Then never mind.

I have this problem where school and parents and work get in the way of doing what I want to do.

You can't blame anything on background. I had nothing when I was young. I busted my ass working through highschool, even made enough to go to college. I didn't have the brains for it, but I got another job with the railroad and I love it. I've never been happier in my life and I make more money than most of my friends.

I've worked my ass off too, I work three jobs and I still can't afford to go to college. I keep getting laid off because the economy sucks. It's not necessarily how hard you work. It's the oppertunity you have to work.
