It's extremely difficult to perform a truly selfless act, because you are almost always indirectly benefited by seeking the good of others, amirite?

I've always thought that nothing you do is actually selfless. You will always no doubt do things because it makes you happy, or it gives you a "good feeling" or sense of moral duty like you said.

good point. But since it is so rare that altruism is devoid from positive personal side effects, we can only wonder if people's motives are really as pure as they claim. Without the "good feeling" or a sense of moral duty (the avoidance of guilt), would anyone actually donate to charities?
