+68 You're glad you have universal healthcare, and you know your doctor is bound to secrecy, but you still hate that you have to go to him to admit embarassing problems because so many things are unavailable over the counter. amirite?

Just realized the horrendous misogynistic element to this! Too late to edit. Apologies girlfriends, "you still hate that you have to go to him/her"

If more things were available over the counter, you'd just have to admit your embarrassing problem to a pharmacist instead. So there's not much of a difference.

Unless it was a product which you didn't need to tell the pharmacist about, as in it's shelved - I know what you're getting at in fact, but what I'm really referring to is you know, going into the room, sitting down, having to explain in detail, and then proving it so you can get the prescription. That's worse than a pharmacist in my mind. I've bought some embarassing stuff from a pharmacist before, it's not as bad. You also have the choice to drive an out of town pharmacy, hahaha. I think those are they key differences I was thinking of

Ah, that's true.
