People need to realize that depression =/= insecurity. I'm depressed and fucking hot. Depression is caused by a lack of chemicals in your brain, not a lack of symmetry in your face, amirite?

I completely agree with this. But, sometimes the insecurities can really add a worse load on top.

So people can only be insecure about their looks and not anything else?

No. I'm certainly insecure about other things. I think the OP was just debunking the common belief that if you are depressed you hate your body.

@1827092

I'm saying it doesn't come from looks. A girl at a neighboring high school committed suicide, and my newsfeed was cluttered with "You were beautiful, I can't believe anyone ever told you differently" from a shit ton of people who had no idea who she was or why she did it. It really taters my tots.

Depression is caused by being weak minded and pathetic.

It's a mental DISORDER. it's not caused by someone being weak. That's one of the most immature and naïve things I've ever heard. You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

I've had depression. Crippling life destroying depression that barely retains the meaning of the word. And I'm sick of people acting like depressed people have an affliction beyond their control and need our sympathy. Depression is a chemical imbalance, but that chemical imbalance can be over come by anyone. Anyone who says differently isn't depressed or has too weak of will power.

You're right, it can be overcome. But for a lot of people, therapy and medicines don't work, and many don't know how to get rid of it just by wanting to.
