+57 Banning guns because criminals use them is like banning religion because some Muslims attacked the US embassy with religion in mind, amirite?

No, because religion can be used to enrich people's lives. Guns can only harm people. Maybe you can argue that they can be used to harm the right people, like in self-defence, but that's still their sole function.

Nope, guns can be used to enrich people's lives. Sport shooting is damn fun. It's a family bonding activity. The whole "guns are only used to kill people" excuse is bullshit. It's a device used to propel a lead projectile from point A to point B. What it hits depends on the user and gun type. Sure it was originally made to kill things, but look what most of them do now. The target can be a simple paper target, skeet, a deer, etc. I shit you not, there are guns used for cleaning industrial plants. Even guns designed to be used for defense are commonly used for recreation.

I don't mind hunting rifles as much (though I don't particularly like the idea of hunting either.) I get that shooting targets is a legitimate activity, but seriously? How many people actually regularly engage in it, compared to the number of people who own guns for other reasons such as self defence, ie to harm someone? And are those activities really so central to people's lives that they are comparable to religion?
