I don't think we think enough about what food we put in our bodies. Most people know a salad is better for them than a cheeseburger is, but how much better? What we eat affects our skin, hair, hearts, minds, etc. Its not just fat or skinny. Literally every part of our bodies are affected by what we eat. Nobody is perfect in what they eat but if we tried to make more conscience decisions we could probably have a better quality and quantity of life, amirite?

Eat what you like but in moderation. Works for me.

@MrTie Eat what you like but in moderation. Works for me.

Exactly. Moderation is everything. Except when it comes to fruits and veggies. Then eat ALL you want :)

True.

Well, eat all the veggies you want. Except carrots, squash, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes because they will turn your subcutaneous adipose tissue orange, thus turning YOU orange.

Unless you're into that sorta thing.

Sorry but that is such a vacuous, meaningless phrase. "Eat everything in moderation!" Does that include apple seeds? Chicken bones? Should you eat a 150g hamburger and wash it down with 150g of snake venom? Everything in moderation, right? The phrase begs the question because in order for it to make sense, you have to already accept the questionable notion that "moderate" means "healthy" or "logical", which is simply not true. In terms of the human diet, it's clear that there are some things that are healthy even in huge doses (12 cups of broccoli would be perfectly healthy to eat), and some things are unhealthy in small doses (just one tablespoon of salt is way too much salt for one day). Therefore, suggesting that we should "eat everything in moderation" is lazy and fails to answer any question about the nature of healthy eating. It's a nice-sounding sentiment and nothing more.

@wobbuffet Sorry but that is such a vacuous, meaningless phrase. "Eat everything in moderation!" Does that include apple...

Reading is not for everybody it seems. I said "Eat what you like in moderation" such as fast food or soda and stuff that can be unhealthy, I never said "Eat everything". You can drink some poison if you like I don't care.

Whenever I went on my diet and quit soda completely I started to notice that I was more awake and my skin was FLAWLESS, BABY. 15 pounds lost, but a lot of health gained.

@mirandaamirite Whenever I went on my diet and quit soda completely I started to notice that I was more awake and my skin was...

Awesome! It's so easy to drink thousands of calories and not even notice it! I wish I didn't like soda and sweet tea as much as I do :( Haha

People think eating organic is expensive? What about the medical bills and pills you will be paying for later on?
Food is fuel for everything in our bodies. It still confuses me that some people can't process that in their minds and consume substances that have no nutritional value whatsoever.
I mean its okay to have some fast food or ice cream once in a while.. But everyday? That's when it's an addiction to people.

I prefer the idea of whole foods over "organic" although technically speaking all food is organic. If people eat foods that are as natural as possible there are thousands of studies that show a positive correlation to good health and eating more wholesome foods

Why is this in fun/jokes?

LOVE this! And was eating a salad when I read it! Changed by diet in the past year from fast food twice a day to lots of vegetables, fruit, and lean meats! I felt disgusting once I learned what I was really putting into my body and what it was doing to me. Health and fitness should be taught more in depth in schools so even kids know how they should fuel their bodies! Love that this is POTD

I was hoping your comment was going to say this, but how has the change in diet affected you?
Do you feel different? Healthier?

Maybe in the future, natural selection will sort out those adjusted to eating fast food constantly from those who don't and we will have 2 species of humans. Inplausible, i know, but thought provoking as well.

No shit. Really, if you don't get enough fiber, you can't shit. A lot of people have that problem.

When I drink a lot of coke and coffee I start to feel shitty. I guess it's the sugar/caffeine rush then the come down from it. I was noticing this recently, so I went to just drinking water and juice again but I started getting headaches all the time :/
The problem is when I'm down about something I'm like "screw it" and I grab a coke, and in the end that makes me feel worse.

If you're addicted (yes it's addicting, literally) to caffeine, it's probably not the best idea to just go cold turkey. If you really want to quit, try cutting back a little bit at a time until you cut it out completely from your diet.
You will get headaches if you try to just stop abruptly, but if you can manage to get down to little or no caffeine in your diet, you will feel a lot better.

I suggest everyone grow a garden and take proper care of it.

You'll eat healthier because you grew it! There won't be any harmful chemicals or preservatives, etc.

Just a thought. <3

I'm learning the differences in foods and what vitamins do and such in cultures and cuisines and food science now. It's really useful.
Under "Carbohydrate" on the nutrition label, there's "Sugar". That's the one you have to pay attention to. That's the unhealthy one.

It's hard to keep your body healthy, but if you just search for enough foods with a lot of vitamins and minerals, you ought to be good. Juice and cereal are good sources of those.
Also keep at your servings. 2-4 servings of fruit, 9 servings of grains, etc.
Those aren't too hard to follow, really.

But to add it all together just doesn't seem like it's worth the time, so I just grab some vitamin-filled cereal, low-calorie high-fiber bars, and go. Because fiber is ultra important.

Juice is actually not recommended to have often because by removing the pulp of the fruit (the fibre) you've just eliminated the digestional process that your body would have gone through.
And it's calorie dense with a lot of simple sugars which isn't bad but there are better ways of getting that.

@AdonisBatheus I'm learning the differences in foods and what vitamins do and such in cultures and cuisines and food science now...

Depending on what juices you're drinking they might not be all that good for you. Most juices are extremely processed and sugary. Although they're delicious, they're not all that good for you. It's always best to get the freshest stuff you can. After watching 'Fat, sick, and nearly dead' on Netflix, I did a juice cleanse for 7 days and felt amazing. I recommend it to anyone wanting to reboot their system.

Who cares? cheeseburgers are delicious. :D

@mirandaamirite Your body cares.

As of right now, I'm one of those people who can eat anything and not gain weight, so my body doesn't care that much right now, thank you.

@thesinginghippie As of right now, I'm one of those people who can eat anything and not gain weight, so my body doesn't care that...

Yeah, I assumed you were. My point was that just because you don't gain weight doesn't automatically make you healthy.
You're welcome.

I simply don't give a fuck. Tastes good goes in. Fuck my body...wait

every part of our body is affected

But... Carls jr. is so good.
I'd rather die eating the best food on the planet at age 80 than die eating twigs and berries at 100.

I do. I'm not an idiot. You have no idea whether or not I'm stupid. I was being silly.

"if we tried to make more conscience decisions we could probably have a better quality and quantity of life"
Does that mean if I eat really well, I can have nine lives? wary smilie

Gotta die somehow, why not make it due to eating delicious food? Salad all the time is no fun.

This is a really shit POTD.

Why? I think it's pretty good and also it's different than any POTD I've seen.
