+169 Banning birth control should not even be an issue. Women have the right to have sex without getting pregnant using any form of contraception they wish to use, amirite?

It's weird how people make arguments based on what rights people have. If I thought it should be illegal to call black people racial slurs an acceptable argument wouldn't be "Well we have the right to do so." There's no question about whether they have such a right, but there is a question about whether they //should// have a right to do so.

No, an acceptable argument in the case you presented would be that "well we have the right to do so." Although it is morally wrong, it is covered under the right of free speech amendment. Consensual sex between two adults is a right, not a privilege.

But the point of whether it is is not relevant, they're not saying contraception is illegal.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No, but they are trying to make it illegal. In the case you made, the right of it is not being questioned.

That's not the issue. The issue is whether or not the government should be paying for those contraceptives.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That is only part of the issue. No, the government should not have to pay for it. However, there are people actively wanting birth control banned. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/03/rick-santorum-birth-control-sodomy_n_1181291.html

Contraceptives aren't always used just for fun sex; women will need them in some circumstances...such as i.e. after getting raped. That's why I believe it should be covered like any other health product that the government already covers; it has legitimate uses with real health in mind.

Being covered under the government is not the same as being handed out for free. Such as my birth control is covered under my insurance, which I pay for so it's technically not free.

That's human life. It's selfish to not even give someone the right of being born just so you can have recreational sex. What's wrong with you...

I'm not sure if this person is attempting to troll, or if they have never enjoyed some good old recreational sex.

I don't give someone life every single month. Egg cells get discarded every month, and sperm cells die off after a while and are replenished by new ones. How is that different from having sex without getting pregnant?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Wow, I can't believe that even IS an issue. Amirite constantly reminds me of how less divided Australian politics is in comparison to the US. You hardly see that sort of extreme right wing politics here. Australia's really quite moderate and it's only times like these that I am reminded of it.

if mitt and his 5 sons could get knocked up, you bet his agenda would be to have birth control readily available and abortion legal.

From what I've read (I haven't really researched it, so I could easily be wrong) I think Romney is more saying that places should not be required to hand out free birth control, especially if it is against the religion of the organization.

Issues like that are so stupid. I mean, humans are one of the very few creatures that have sex for fun and pleasure rather than purely reproductive reasons, and taking away //any// form of birth control is essentially taking away the benefits of our human nature.
