I have a feeling the OP might be actually thinking of certain medications which are controversial in their side effects or proposed reason for use - e.g. ritalin. But the statement is so absolutist and strange, it's impossible for rational people to agree

In a sense, yes. I'm a different person without them. I feel like I have less control when I'm not medicated.

OP, can you explain why you think this, I'm honestly curious. I do think we are as a society over medicated and that medication shouldn't be a first resort for mental health issues (a lot of the time, young people who are prescribed meds are under stress, and not eating + sleeping + exercising properly, using social media too much, etc and these things need to be considered before medication). But they do help. I know heaps of kids with ADHD who's school marks and social skills picked up after going on meds, and making them happier. I NEED my anti-depressants. I have trouble even getting out of bed some days. I cannot stop taking them just because of some ideology or philosophy that's against medication, and believe me, I have run into those.
