+224 You understand that plagirism is serious and should not be tolerated at the professional level, but there's no reason to be nitpicky and accuse someone of copying a sentence. Although there are a lot of words in the English language, there are bound to be similar combinations, amirite?

I never know what to do about stuff I've learned and don't remember my source.

I just pretend that I already knew it smirk.

When someone brought this up to my teacher, she said "I doubt any of you would have the same ideas and vocabulary as a professional" all condescending-like.

One sentence shouldn't be a big deal, unless you only turn in one sentence. But if half your paper uses the same words and phrases as another source, or multiple other sources, you're probably either cheating or not trying hard enough.

I heard a story about 3 immigrants from Puerto Rico that came to the states to go to college on a baseball scholarship. They didn't know the rules about plagarism, and accidently didn't give enough citations or something like that. They ended up losing their scholarships and going back to Puerto Rico with basically nothing. This could be debated either way if it was right or not, but it was the inspiration for this post. I personally think the plagarism policy has gotten too harsh in recent years.
