+369 America should really use the metric system, its much easier and more logical, amirite?

I think it is because if they start teaching that in schools kids wont unerstand most things made before. If they teach both a kid will prefer one over another and it will be even more confusing.

(>:D): Well Britian successfully changed their entire currency system in 1971 without too much trouble.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That may be a decent proof of concept for national-level change, but keep in mind that the UK's population in the '70s was about one-fifth or less of America's current population. Any change America made like that would be on a much larger scale, and would likely come with much more difficulty.

Well back in 1971 you also wouldnt get sued for accidently poking someone, but now look at us, hearts after facebook statuses, 16 and pregnant, jersey shore?! :(

It makes more sense, but it would be hellll to change.. Just think of all the road signs and speed limit signs that contain miles..

Everything but temperature. I dislike Centigrade. I'm perfectly content with my 70 degrees.

Nahh. America's a hipster and the metric system is too mainstream.

YEAH! SET FIRE TO THE ESTABLISHMENT!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ehhh, yes and no. I use metric system for everything except weighing myself. I prefer pounds to kilograms.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

America feels the need to be different from the rest of the world for some reason....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, we wanna be special. METRIC SYSTEM DOES NOT EQUAL FREEDOM

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nooo Metric system is so much easier people. Have you tried converting inches and pounds into metrics in science class? THAT SHITS HARD. Americans take the easy way out anyway!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We already learn about the metric system in school. But I wouldn't really care with the centimeters and meters.. but if we used kilometers and celcius I'd be confused...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It is a lot easier and America should switch, but in addition to it being difficult, it'll be extremely expensive.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

America's system is so confusing. Including trying to convert it when watching "Biggest Loser."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The only reason America didn't switch to the metric system when the rest of the world did is because of stupid businesses. They didn't want to waste the money changing everything from "standard" to "metric." I personally love metric.

I agree that F is easier to use than C in temp. There's less dealing with negatives. We learn the metric system in school basically starting from middle school and no one really has a problem with it. We use it for chem, physics, and earth science, though math is still inches and ft mostly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most Americans would agree with you. But it would be too much trouble to change it now
