What doesn't kill Mario makes him smaller, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm referring to the fact that if he isn't killed (meaning he is big at this point) then he gets smaller.

Oh now I get it.

Mario does not actually get bigger or smaller. The depiction of his changing size is actually symbolic of his inflating and deflating ego. When he performs exceptionally, he begins to believe himself invincible. That is to say, his ego inflates and he "gets bigger." When he finally confronts a formidable foe, he is maimed and his preconceived notion of invincibility is dispelled. That is to say, his ego deflates and he "gets smaller."

What version of Mario is that? I want to play it. The only one's i'm acquainted with are the ones where he grows after eating a red mushroom.

Well this doesn't apply to Super Mario Sunshine.

:( I was hoping my comment in reply to the first one would get voted up but some guy deleted his comment because he was proved wrong.
