+186 The word "bullying" has been painfully overused lately, making it consequently harder for actual victims to be taken seriously, amirite?

Since bullying has been brought up, I'd like to say, rather than put our efforts into trying to stop it, we should stop prosecuting people for using self-defense.

Yeah, I mean who hasn't had jerks in their life as a kid? Back then we dealt with it or ignored it. Today, kids aren't taught how to handle their own problems because parents are determined to sterilize the world for them Oh gosh I sound like an old geezer. "Back in my day..."

I don't think the overuse of the word has made it harder for actual victims to be taken seriously. It's just annoying, and it's made people really easily offended and soft and allows them to blow things out of context.

Picture yourself as a gradeschool teacher, and one day a student comes up to you and complains that they're being bullied. Because the word is being distorted and watered down from it's original meaning, you have no way of knowing if this kid is being terrorized or if someone laughed at him during recess yesterday.

Well, once he tells me what has happened, I will then be able to know what his definition of bullying is. Then I can either tell him to suck it up, or I can punish the bullies.
