+71 At some point, as a religion continues to morph its doctrine to fit in with modern moral ideals, you have to wonder if the religion is actually being forsaken and proven archaic, or if the heart of the religion is only being discovered for the first time, amirite?

It's probably to keep the core of the system the same, but change the more superficial bits so that people don't turn away form the religion altogether. If it didn't change, all belief in that god would disappear and isn't that worse?

I think a world full of atheists would be a nice place actually.

Not to whoever is the one changing the religion, ie, its leaders. Although I'm a Christian, I think a world full of Atheists would be more peaceful than one with many religions. Of course, a single religion makes the best of both, but we can't choose which religion to be the only one.
