Sometimes it’s hard for companies not to steal ideas from their competitors. If the competitor has a major advantage in their product/service that means they’re making loads more cash, it must be hard to resist, amirite?

Also just because someone beat another company to the release date doesn't mean they can sue for copyrights*cough apple* if it's something that any product of said type needs to function. Examples like pinch to zoom, qwerty keyboards, and two finger scrolling come to mind.

I agree, but if you're the first to think of that, you could get a patent on it. There are other ways to zoom and scroll, but they are inconvenient (menu button, zoom, choose magnification, then drag around for zooming and a scroll bar to scroll.)
