+23 It's clear that the American education system is only teaching students to be perpetually stupid infants, amirite?

How so?

People who down vote prove point

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Prove what point? That everyone who voted yes has a serious case of a superiority complex? Oh, wow, you sure proved to me how //you// aren't a perpetually stupid infant by calling everyone else one. Face it, you have NO reasoning, you're just voting yes to feel superior.

Not that there aren't any flaws, but I'd say our education system accomplishes a lot. We're all smarter than we were as a kindergartener, no? Proves my point exactly.

"Oh, wow, you sure proved to me how you aren't a perpetually stupid infant by calling everyone else one." HAH. That was awesome.

No, I'm saying if you aren't educated enough to know how inferior our school system is you are obviously educated by that school system. We've only declined in educational standards compared to other nations so there is absolutely no sane reasoning as to why our system is (relatively) good

Of course there are flaws. Every school system has flaws. Of course America's system isn't the best. Everything you've said is right, but I do think America's schooling system is above average. We may not have excellent scores, but we sure do have a lot of opportunities. I'm smarter than I was as an infant, thanks to our school system. I owe that to it. We're given plenty of great opportunities, it's just a motivation problem in my opinion.

You hit the nail right on the head. Without an intrinsic motivation to learn and grow as a person, numerous opportunities mean nothing. A student must be encouraged to learn or nothing comes from it, and //that// is what I believe can be used to explain why many American students are behind their Asian counterparts.

Fair enough. If only we measured our academic success by the differential between us and kindergardeners

Do explain, please.

Seriously though, what is your reasoning? I go to one of the best public schools in the country, so maybe I'm not one to debate with, but I am curious to hear your side of the argument.

aren't you being a bit dramatic?

I've actually learned a hell of a lot from my school, and I'm American. I can hold a very good debate and I know quite a bit. I'm not as dumb as a small child, I assure you that.
