+75 On Fox News they believe that anyone who voted for Obama only did because they want to take advantage of the government and welfare. Even though there is a small percentage that will do this, not everyone will. The general population does not want to live off of welfare, they want to make a real living so they can have a nice life. Governing a republic requires the virtue of the citizen. Just because 1 out of 100 might not follow this, does not mean we should punish the other 99, amirite?

Punished? How so? And while it sounded insensitive and narrow-minded, Romney was absolutely right when he talked about the 47%. The bottom 47% of earners in America pay -2% of the nation's taxes. And if you look at the vote split by demographics, most of Obama's votes came from minorities and low earners...most likely because they know they'll get more government benefits with this president

So what? Romney thinks they are low lifes that do nothing for society and feel entitled to these benefits. Most of them work extremely hard to provide for their family. The only people who feel entitled to anything are people in the 1% like Romney.

Really? You're one of those people that hate successful people? How does it make them entitled when they pay for everything they have AND everything that 47% has?

To be fair, Winnie, they also earn around 0.3% of the nations income

by Anonymous 11 years ago

According to IRS reports from 2009, they have 13% of it

The bottom 80% does, yes

Not necessarily more government benefits as in welfare, but more support for the average people, the 80% of Americans who together own ~10% of the nation's wealth. These people want regulations and support because they don't want to get screwed over. Thus, they prefer harsher treatment to the upper class. Then again, the rich people are the same, so they prefer harsher treatment to the lower class. People don't vote Obama so they can get welfare. Only 4% of the population is on welfare. They vote because they think he cares more about the conditions of the working class.

Government benefits don't just include welfare. They include all manner of social programs, laws and regulations, and policies that benefit those people at taxpayer expense. And if you look at the vote, you'll see that if the people that do exploit these benefits didn't vote, we would have a different president right now. People say that Romney tried to outspend Obama to win the election but he did the same thing. The difference is he used our money to buy our vote instead of his own

You use roads? Benefit from the police? Go to public school? Are protected by the army? Yeah, pretty much everyone is. If people who didn't do any of those things voted, we wouldn't have a president at all because those people don't exist.

First off, the government doesn't need to be involved in some of those, but simply opt to so they have more power over the people such as school. And there is a difference between using government-provided services and exploiting social programs and handouts (as per the 47%). My point here is that government buys votes through handouts. Whether they are necessary I'd a different question as is who uses them. The fact never changes: government buys the people

Not all of his voters were, but a lot of them. And Romney actually worked to get to where he is.
