+73 Loneliness is a state of mind, not a state of being, amirite?

I'm guessing that you've never been truly lonely.

I think you're missing the point. People call themselves lonely when they FEEL lonely, not when they ARE lonely, because you can feel lonely without being alone, and you can be alone without feeling like you are.

So you're saying that loneliness is SOMETIMES a state of mind.

I'm saying that whenever people think they're lonely, it's because they FEEL lonely, regardless of whether they actually are

"...regardless of whether they actually are" When you say "regardless of whether", you're indicating that the following phrase can be //either// true or false. Your subsequent use of "are" indicates that loneliness //is// (or can be) a state of being, as it's a conjugated form of "to be". I understand your post, I just don't agree with it. A state of mind can be changed, whereas a state of being is extremely difficult to change. There are lonely people who, no matter how hard they try, can't change their state of being: they'll always be lonely.

I'm actually completely confused about what part of the post you disagree with

by Anonymous 11 years ago

...At this point, so am I. I'm pretty sure this was the result of me being dumb anough to confuse loneliness with being alone.

Haha, I was just saying that people think of themselves as lonely because they feel lonely, and then can feel lonely with or without actually being alone
