I think it's the fact that you have kept something from them. If you tell them the truth right off the bat, I don't think they'd be as mad. But, if someone asks a question like, "Does this make my butt look big?" and you answer honestly, or you lie, that is where they will be mad either way, sort of like you're trapped in a box with no way out.
