+57 If we used to think the smallest things that everything was made up of was atoms but have since discovered atoms are made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons, then discovered those are made of quarks, hadrons, and leptons that are held together by even smaller gluons, it wouldn't be surprising if one day we found even smaller particles that made up those things, amirite?

I'm not a physicist or anything but aren't they looking for it now in Switzerland using the large hadron collider. The Higgs Boson or God particle, I believe it's called. Like I said, I'm not an expert on physics but I always assumed that the God particle was the smallest particle that made up everything else.

The Higgs boson is one of the components of the Higgs field, which, simply speaking, is the field which gives particles mass. It is also thought to be much heavier than a proton or neutron.
