+59 The government has no right to tell us what not to put in our bodies if it doesn't affect or victimize anyone but ourselves, amirite?

I'm sincerely curious what the NWers think.

I didn't no way it, but a situation like this comes to mind... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsUH8llvTZo which does end up hurting other people

I NWed because I think everything is full circle and will affect someone else in the future. Also, I don't like when people say that "the government has no right to do something" as if the government is a separate entity that doesn't care about its citizens. This is a representative democracy; WE are the government. If you don't want something to go into law, do something about it.

I agree, everything will effect someone eventually. Perhaps it should have been worded in a way to show you're against it if it doesn't effect anyone //negatively//. Anything //could// have a negative outcome, but I mean in a way where the drug itself causes people to act out negatively toward other people. Ex: those meth commercials where that guy is running into his parent's door screaming to be let in. Like doing heroin is gonna make someone not give a shit about anyone or anything, that's part of the whole high of the drug. A person might become lazy and not take care of shit or care about anything on weed or salvia or acid or shrooms or 2ci or something, but that's not directly caused from the drug. But I disagree with the last part. Many people who disagree with what the government does try to do something about it. It does bother me when people complain and don't do anything, but the government is just really fucking corrupt, and in the US anyway it makes us think we have all the power when really we don't, a la the elective college.

That's true. I was mostly just talking about the people that just complain and want everything to fall into their lap. I find often that they're also the ones that say the government does nothing for them and it's dumb and we should just have anarchy. The government is corrupt, yes, but it's something we can change. Meh, I think I'm too much of an optimist to discuss changing the government realistically.

THOSE people. Yeah, those people irritate me. I think it is something we can change, the system allows us, people just need to start giving a shit and paying attention. It's so goddamn boring though.

I can agree with you that it's boring. I absolutely hate civics and politics and the like, but I realize that it's important so I learn about it anyway.

I like how I get downvoted for wanting to understand opinions that aren't my own un

Such as?

I think sometimes the government needs to protect people from themselves. For example if your government provides healthcare then it can sort of dictate what you do with your body because ultimately this affects the government and other citizens. But then we can discuss whether universal healthcare is beneficial for people (IMO it is but I'm Canadian so yeah...)

You're talking about prohibition and the war on drugs right? Definitely it should at least only victimize the user at the most, but now there's prohibition which in insidious ways has been affecting everybody, and users are just tremendously punished instead of getting help if they actually need it. I blame the government .__. booooo!
