+29 It'd be a really interesting experiment to keep a group of lobsters in captivity and take every measure to make sure they are safe, then see how long they can live, amirite?

For those who don't know, it's been hypothesized that lobsters are biologically immortal, meaning that they would live indefinitely barring disease and injury. Most animals have a relatively set length of time they can live because their DNA is damaged every time their cells split. Lobsters have an enzyme called Telomerase that repairs the DNA when it replicates itself. As such, lobsters show none of the infertility or frailty that comes with aging that other animals do.
