+109 Waitressing/being a waiter is harder than it looks and most of the money you earn is based on tips due to a horrible hourly wage, people need to take into account it's not always your fault that the service was horrible, amirite?

I totally agree. It sucks though that eating out is already expensive then on top of that i have to tip the wait staff. I get that if the waiter staff does a bad job they shouldn't get a tip and that's why tip is separate...but why's the food so gosh dang expensive if not to pay for that service?!?!

not to mention customers unaware of this, who get a super service and just leave with the bill paid... I know in the USA, for instance, they are paid ridiculously low wages, and simply can't make it without tips. Pretty young women usually get a fair tip, but less physically gifted persons can go home with close to nothing... yes, that's kind of horrible. However, it should be noted that a number of places have a common jar for the tips to be equally shared. Where I live, waiters have decent salaries, and the tip is purely optional. I think it's the way to go.
