+61 Technically, you cannot do anything you do not //want// to do. Consciously (or unconsciously) you have to will your body to physically move. So on some level you have to //want// to, or your body would simply remain limp. Amirite?

Except for involuntary actions.

Like when your leg //jerks// at night? Are you sure their is no //will// involved even in these seeming reflective acts. Seems on some level something in your brain must be controlling these events.

Yes, twitching, heart beating, breathing, blinking etc. Sure you can control all of these somewhat, but not entirely.

Are you saying that some people do not //want// to breath, or blink, but do anyways? I've heard of terminally ill people //giving up the will to live,// they do not //want// their heart to beat and so it stops. I think that happened with my father.

Those are rare occurrences though when this post is directed to the general audience, and I am sorry for your loss. A little kid playing the game __who can hold their breath longer__ would like to be able to stop their breathing for a while longer than normal, but their will to live and natural reflexes tell them it's time to come up for air. Either way, I'm not saying a person would want to do these things, but that it's not entirely possible as long as they have the will to live.

I think I get what you are saying. I would argue that when the kid started breathing again he wanted to.

Think I could get away with using this as why I'm never at school?

Are you suggesting there's such a thing as free will?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Today I learned there's no such thing as accidents.
