Also about Language+34Italians would probably make really good sign language interpreters, amirite?
Also about Language-42If an English person thinks using the English language and a Spanish person thinks using the Spanish language. Does a baby think in baby language, amirite?
Also by VicZinc+8Given the choice, you would choose to crush six big bugs with your foot over escorting two blow-up dolls through the school. Amirite?
Also by VicZinc+4Now a days, if someone tells you, "you should rotate your crops," you just think: I got an idea, why don’t you just rotate this. Amirite?
Also by VicZinc+13It is folly to strive for a height from which you are unprepared to plunge. Amirite?
Also about Language-59Sometimes when i have an opinion, i forget that it doesnt matter, amirite?
The word "stupid" can sometimes be used tastefully, but the word "retarded" should not be used outside of the medical term.
You are right. Using stupid as a cuss, for example "this stupid computer keeps locking up." Is OK-ish. But saying "this retarded computer" makes the speaker look callow (in my mind.)
It's pathetic because I've seen more people get in trouble for saying "stupid" than "retarded." I mean, sure, "retarded" is a word used in the medical field, but it's also used as an insult and it's intended to have more sting than "stupid."
I have trictotilamania and was required to take special ed classes for it in elementary school. Despite having no differences from every one else besides a bald patch on my head I was called a retard and a weirdo. I literally did not care. I was never hurt by it. I never thought twice of it. I had fine friends, and a fine school life. Am I missing something here?
not everyone is going to have the same experiences/reactions
there can also be drastic differences in the situation
it's a lot to consider
You want a cookie for not being offended?
You fucking know it.
By the livin' Gawd that made you, You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din
seriously, good for you. I'm happy there are people like you
I wasn't allowed to say "shut up."
I can beat all of you. I still can't say fart. Not in front of my mom at least.
What were you supposed to call it ?
Break wind, pass gas, poot (yes, really)
All women prefer to hear farts referred to as poots or toots.
It's important to note that racial or intellectual insults should only ever affect you if they were used maliciously (As in Vic's case) and not jokingly, as they are used i normal conversation. If you let joking ones affect you, they may just be true.
I don't think using any type of slur as a means of a joke makes any sense. If you assume that you can use a slur in a context that will automatically be recognized as "humor", then you are closed-minded.
There's a difference between saying something jokingly and saying it as a joke. It just means casually. Like how friends can say things like "Hey you fucking bastard haven't seen you in so long!" and not actually mean fucking bastard.
So ironically? I guess I did not understand the context of your comment.
No. Ironically means something like counter intuitive. in the hipster definition, it means to do something not because you enjoy it but because you want to mock those who do. Similar to "Ooh, look at me, I'm __. I like to __,__ and I can _"
This just means not seriously, or not meaning it.
Verbal irony is when one thing is said where the opposite is implied.
You understand that your friend is not a bastard, but you call him that anyway. That is irony by definition.
Your grasp of irony is very limited.
I got told I was stupid for wanting to do things or for liking things way too often.
Having been labeled retarded by the state, placed in special education, and tormented by "normal" kids calling me “retard” has made me extra sensitive to this issue. I still cannot think about those events without choking up.
It was difficult for me to write this post and even harder to write this comment. I do not know what it feels like to be called racial slurs but if it feels anything like being called a “tard” then it borders on the unforgivable.
I also just thought of 'freak'. That's bad one to be called too.
I was always called "weirdo." Some bitch threw a rock at me because I'm weird.
Damn rocks. I've had multiple thrown at me while being called four eyes.
I had the same experience. Day care people didn't do anything about it, either.
Honestly, what do people have against seeing
I don't know, but apparently, adults didn't care either because the little shits would do so right in front of their parents and their parents didn't do shit.
My dad would ask me rhetorical questions like, "what are you, stupid or something". Ahhh, good times.
