+128 The saying "opposites attract" isn't usually true. Most of the time, you're attracted to a person more when you find out you have lots of similarities and share the same interests, and a relationship usually works out more when the couple understands each other and aren't against each other on everything. I think the meaning is that it's not that differences make couples against each other, but rather that they compliment each other. Like my dad is relatively quiet but my mom is the talkative social butterfly. My dad is neat and tidy while my mom tends to make a mess and build up clutter around the house. Sometimes my dad gets frustrated with it, but it doesn't turn them against each other or anything.

You need a balance. Even in physics, oppositely charged/magnetised objects attract, but if they're opposite in everything (one is antimatter), they annihilate and blow everything up.

This works really well with a couple where one is introverted and one is extraverted, actually. The extraverted one helps bring the introverted one out of their shell. I think being opposites can go either way. Either they will compliment teach other nicely or they won't.
