+76 Youthful rebellion is an important part of humanness. It drives innovation. If young adults were typically satisfied with the //status quo// humanity would not have enjoyed so many advances in society, technology and art. Amirite?

I would contend that rebellion and dissatisfaction are two different things

I would agree. One can be dissatisfied and simply mope about it. When one actually affects change, advances occur. To defy established conventions is a form of rebellion. Grumbling to yourself while toeing the line does little.

Very fair...but I still don't think that rebellion is quite what the solution is...I mean, there's always a time for rule breaking but there are plenty of ways to create change without being rebellious

Perhaps I should have used quotes around "youthful rebellion" it is an idiom: as part of development into young adults, humans develop an identity independent from their parents or family and a capacity for independent decision-making. They may experiment with different roles, behaviors, and ideologies as part of their process of developing an identity. Youthful rebellion has been recognized within psychology as a set of behavioral traits that supersede class, culture, or race.
