+5 Affirmative action in college acceptance should be based on socioeconomic status, amirite?

To add some more of my opinion that wouldn't fit on the post: Because there are so many racial minorities living in poverty, adjusting affirmative action to accommodate socioeconomic status would help these minorities get into good schools despite the opportunities they've been deprived of, as well as prevent upper middle class minorities from taking advantage of this when they do not need it. There are, however, some problems with making AA based only on economic status-- racist admissions offices (and employers, if we expand this idea to the job market) will always be able to discriminate based on the names of students, no matter how color-blind applications may be. A person with a more ethnic name could possibly have less of a chance due to pure racism. However, to prevent upper middle class white kids who are "1/8 cherokee" from exploiting affirmative action opportunities, I think AA should focus on socioeconomic status.

So, you were talking about Warren? Personally, I don't agree with affirmative action - in an ideal world, there would be no need for it since the most qualified would be the one who gets admitted, gets the job, etc. I do understand the concept since we live in such an imperfect world. I just find it incredibly sad all the nepotism that goes on, and that often prevents the more qualified person from getting the admission/job.
