I'm going to assume that you're talking about a reasonably earlier time period, like the middle of the 20th century and before that. I definitely don't think that teens and young adults had it better. At that time, people at that age had no rights, and received no respect, regardless of whether or not they deserved it. I can't help but feel that the opinions of teenagers and young adults are regarded with far more importance today than they were in the past. The idea of children being seen and not heard has pretty much disappeared, and the message that teenagers can make changes in the world, and are capable of making their own decisions (to an extent, of course) is becoming very popular.
