-11 It's a good idea for a school to provide every student with a laptop, Amirite?

sounds too expensive I think sharing a lab is more reasonable

They did that here in aus but they gave it out only to one grade every year and I missed out frown .

My school does that. I like it a lot.

My school had some laptops assigned? specifically to SE students that needed them, and there were little trolleys of the smaller ones that a few of the advanced classes got, but those never left the classes.

Most would just sell it.

Horrible idea. Here's why: Our high school apparently bought laptops and iPads for all of the classrooms for teachers to use because as we all know, using laptops and iPads are the **only** effective method of teaching (sarcasm). My cousin recently began working there and was cleaning the mess the old teacher left for her. The Macbook was stored away in a box and the iPad was missing from its box, most likely stolen. If teachers aren't even using this stuff responsibly or even using them at all, they shouldn't be spending tax payer money on them. So if schools are spending money on unused equipment for the teachers, I doubt every student will use theirs responsibly. Besides, the majority of students live in homes where internet access and a computer is available and I'd say most of them even have their own laptops. This said, I understand some families don't have those resources and perhaps students in those families should be able to get them from the school somehow, but not //every// student needs one. Also, it's silly to think that making your school as high-tech as possible will magically increase learning. The money would be better allocated towards better teachers.

Like any other resource, computers are only helpful for those who actually use them. I'm not quite sure how iPads aid in learning, but laptops (even crappy ones) can provide students with nearly limitless information. Additionally, using laptops can greatly reduce the ridiculous amount of paper being wasted in large facilities such as schools. By providing students all with the same type of computer, it is unlikely that anyone will steal another's (if everyone brought their own laptops to school and people without laptops could rent school-provided computers, stealing would be far more likely, because people would want the better good). Lastly, a point which I don't necessarily agree with, who needs teachers when we have the internet? We could theoretically use online forums and videos and simulations instead of having physical teachers.
