A rich person may actually be very poor, and a poor person may actually be very rich. Amirite?

it depends on the meaning of wealth

do you mean wealthy with money

or wealthy with experiences, growth, family, love, etc.?

I knew two little girls and a little boy who were poor
they lived in a small hut with no electricity
and they owned next to nothing

the hut wasn't even theirs

but they're so wealthy in terms of happiness
they're jolly kids
and their parents are really nice and jolly too

always smiling

they make wealth through what they have without money

they're not so little anymore though
I haven't seen them in over half a decade

Well isn't that a horribly generalizing and offensive statement.

if you read my first comment
that's not the kind of wealth I'm talking about

one definition is with monetary value, etc.

but wealth in general is an abundance of something
anything

such as health
and the other examples I gave in the first comment

there are some people who have tons of money
they're wealthy in that way
but they feel so poor because their life feels lacking in other aspect(s)

then there are those who are poor with money and health
but they're wealthy in some other way

there are studies that show someone poor (money -wise) getting a large inheritance
but after a year
people go back to their baseline happiness

so no matter how horrible or great your life is
you go back to your baseline happiness eventually

and for some people
no matter how "poor" they are
that baseline happiness is deliciously high

@1942453

the baseline happiness differs from person to person
regardless of what one has money-wise

I know what poor looks like
I come from a place where over 25% of the people live off of less than 2 dollars per day
and where about half the kids are malnourished

I'm not saying poverty is a happy thing

what I'm saying is that there is more to wealth than having money

some people have a low baseline and aren't ever that happy regardless of all they have

and some have a high baseline where they're pretty happy regardless of what they don't have

@1942455

like I said
baseline happiness differs from person to person

and the story I wrote in the beginning
those aren't American kids
nor do they have welfare

if they did
they wouldn't have been living in a one room hut with no electricity that didn't even belong to them

I don't even know what nationality has to do with this
there are homeless people in America who don't get welfare

@1942462

you didn't go back to baseline at one point during that period?

if not
you're one of those exceptions the article talks about

and I made a post about that
