+1 I find it highly fascinating that the most popular TV shows and movies entertain the realm of the supernatural or invisible - the very element that science claims does not exist. Amirite?

by Anonymous 10 years ago

It makes perfect sense. People are not entertained by what is already a fact. Almost all popular TV shows have some element of unrealism in them, because it is just that. Unreal. It is interesting for us to see what is not true being portrayed as true, because we have active imaginations.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

I agree that you are fascinated by that... I however find it very predictable.

So all of you are saying that everyone who has books and programs about chasing ghosts, spirits, and who are practicing psychics, astrologers, and anything else that deals with a supernatural realm are completely nuts and phony? If you refuse to acknowledge the supernatural, you are calling all these people liars and charlatans. There are numerous completely credible people involved in such.

It's not that these authors or these people are fake, it's that they're writing fiction. Are you familiar with the concept of fiction? It's when an author writes something that they know is not true, because it is entertaining.

Of course I am asshole! Why do you always jump in my face? Are you familiar with people who are genuinely into spiritism and who do contact spirits, hunt for ghosts (haunted houses), and spend most of their lives documenting such? Oh, that's right, since it isn't science, there is no way any of it could be real.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Of course you are asshole? might want to add an 'an' in there. And yeah, I have a hard time believing stories of ghosts and hauntings.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

See, you can't even read basic communication. Read it again. You asked, "Are you familiar with the concept of fiction?" to which I replied, "Of course I am asshole!" You are a jerk extraordinaire, and I am absolutely done with you. Don't expect any more replies from me. I don't care what you believe or think. Enjoy your self absorption and stay out of my face. I did not invite you in to it!

Ever heard of George Noory or Art Bell? Oh, that's right - all conspiracy theory lunatics. Of course. And all their guests who have more degrees than you will ever earn are all lunatics as well. Grow up and get a life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Noory

TV shows are for entertainment. I find it entertaining to see these shows with the supernatural elements to them. Does that mean I believe they exist? No. I know it's TV, it's entertainment, and it's not real. If all the TV shows followed realistic guidelines, no-one would watch TV because everything would be the same. Every show would be the same. We need drama, we need unrealistic things to keep us interested. I don't see any criticism on books, however. Same goes for them. Why do you think that fiction books are most common for people to read and make into movies? Because it's entertainment. That's all it is. We want to be scared, with thrilling things, not heavy topics that'll weigh over our shoulders. I'd much rather watch a zombie TV show than a documentary on starving children. Both scare me, however I want to watch the zombies because at least then I can think "they don't exist" and move on with my life. The other one just makes me perpetually sad.

Gee, then why is REALITY T.V. the hottest ongoing topically based programming on television? The Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, House Flipping, American Pickers, American Restoration, Beverly Hills Pawn, South Beach Tow, Lizard Lick Towing, Operation Repo, Making The Band, American Chopper, Dog Whisperer, Miami Ink, Bad Ink, Duck Dynasty, Real Housewives, Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men, Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, Auction Hunters, Hardcore Pawn, Honey Boo Boo..........just to name a FEW! But nobody is watching T.V. right? Not a shred of supernatural in any of those. And again, nobody in this thread is addressing the FACT that a supernatural element DOES exist, is real, and people ARE making a living and careers out of tracking, documenting, and trying to bring their finds and data to the forefront.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Oh wait you, you believe that reality TV actually shows reality? Are you blind? The people in reality TV shows are famous. Being famous automatically excludes you from having an average life. Famous people can do whatever the hell they want with their time. They have money, they don't do daily jobs like the majority of the working class, they get to slack off and be funny. Reality TV is exaggerated. It shows a standard of living that very little people actually get, so it shouldn't be considered reality, rather reality for famous people with truckloads of cash. Just because people make a living off of so-called documentation of a supernatural thing doesn't mean that thing exists. People may just want it for the "shock value" of "goodness people might actually believe this let's put it on TV".

by Anonymous 10 years ago

That was NOT my point! You said if all shows on T.V. followed "realistic guidelines" then nobody would watch T.V. because it would all be the same. I challenged that with reality t.v. Yes, it is exaggerated, but there is NO supernatural element in any of it - proving that people will in fact watch television that does not include a supernatural or supposedly non existent subject matter. Some of the most successful movies and television shows or mini-series of all time have been down to Earth, good, clean, wholesome viewing. Here are a few I looked up: Seinfeld, All In The Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show, I Love Lucy, The Cosby Show, Sesame Street, The Andy Griffith Show, The Waltons, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Walker - Texas Ranger......and on and on and on. Sporting events as well - NONE of which involve any fantasy or supernatural. As for the supernatural - there simply are too many things going on around us (and plenty of people are aware of it and tuned in to it) to say it does not exist. Science can address many issues and topics, but there are unexplainable phenomena occurring every single day, and it is just as "real" as anything seen by the naked eye. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_watched_television_broadcasts http://www.livescience.com/11345-top-ten-unexplained-phenomena.html

Eh I'm just gonna say right now you can win this argument, I've got all the satisfaction I've wanted.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Let's call it a draw.............I am not trying to win anything! You are as logical based as I am, and I enjoy the talk.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

as said before, people like things that they've never seen before, things that do not exist. I personally do believe in the supernatural, to a point.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Things are going bump in the night all around the world. Science does not have to acknowledge it or weigh in for human beings to KNOW and experience things that are going on. If it were a hand full of crazies, we could all write it off. But when there are too many out there to count, with books, stories, experiences, and sightings - they can not all be crazy. Many of them are extremely educated and reputable sources. Science loves to throw anything they can't explain under the bus - but that is only to their discredit and lack of "understanding." Nobody can see a thought or imagination, and yet everyone believes they exist. Imagine that!
