liberals seem hell-bent on making Orwell's 1984 a reality, amirite?

Sounds like a mental shortcut where the post is inaccurately generalizing
I don't see how liberals are making things like Orwellian society
That society was very authoritarian, and liberals tend to be more Libertarian I think

You're actually quite incorrect. Modern liberals want a more communist society. They want the current "oppressor", cis white males, to become the oppressed in their version of a level playing field. They also want everyone who disagrees with their ideology to be punished.
The ultimate goal of the liberal social justice movement is a society with everyone they view as oppressed now dominate the society and kill anyone who opposes them.

eh
sounds like more bias on your part
still inaccurately generalizing

I'm a liberal on the political compass and I don't agree with this. Maybe the majority of liberals do, but I don't know. I don't keep up with politics as much as I should. But certainly not all fit into the mold you created.

Is that what your dad told you? Did you even read the book? In the book Oceana was the right wing oppressor and totalitarian regime the comprised of the UK and the US, it was constantly at war with both USSR and China, so it is doubtful that it was communist, although the economic structure was never openly discussed the enemy was identified as communism and there were several example of private ownership and pricing set by supply and demand.
Either way the closest thing we have now to "Big Brother" is the NSA which was converted from an agency that decoded messages under Truman to an intelligence analysis agency under Eisenhower (R). It received its biggest infusion of cash and became "Big Brother" it is under G.W.Bush (R). So to suggest it that the liberals are the only ones pushing the totalitarian agenda is a bit disingenuous. Both parties love the idea of spying on citizen and the "communist" angle is of your 1984 analogy is just all wrong.
Plus I suggest you bone up on the difference between a communist command economy, and a social welfare state, two very different animals. Few if any liberals today are interested in communism but most are interested in redistribution of income while maintaining private ownership of the means of production.

Once again Vic, you attack the speaker and not their point. What Bane thinks about the "liberal perspective" currently active in American politics is correct. You seem more interested in details than the big picture. We all can see that you have a lot of facts readily available to you, but can you truly use them to think.

Sorry Daver.
But that post and its reference to the book are way off base. I may be blind but I don't see my response as an attack on the poster.
"Did you even read the book?" and "I suggest you bone up.."
Are these the "attacks" your talking about?
Can you, Daver, not see that it is the __conservatives__ that are destroying America.
Conservative and the tea party use religious themes based on Christ (who was the most socialist of all religious prophets) to justify extreme capitalism
that is what I and Orwell would call “doublethink”
George HW and company created the Orwellian room 101 at Gitmo and secret interrogation camps
which the Dems want to close
Conservatives believe in trying to legislate morality instead of letting people follow their hearts, exactly as Orwell described when he called them thoughtcrimes
Fox News has become the expert in shifting meaning of words and using propaganda methods to create what Orwell had called newspeak
NSA __is__ now Big Brother, thanks to GW and Cheney's Patriot Act
My response to Bane was cogent and well reasoned
even if it caused //you// to suffer from cognitive dissonance.
Liberals are clawing their why back to a civilized society while conservatives beat them down.
But don't worry,
you will win because you
like the mass of people
let the rulers and pundits think for you
just as Orwell warned us would happen

Power always demands more power. Authoritarianism is the natural result. It's not party specific.

If that is the case why are they 31 years late?
