-3 If one truly believed in damnation they would would seek the ultimate revenge on their nemesis by encouraging him/her to wrongdoing while shielding her from earthly consequence. Anything less would be kindness. Amirite?

Great plan Vic - outsmart God. Good luck with that!

by Anonymous 7 years ago

Not my plan. I don't believe in damnation or revenge. Actually it was Socrates' plan. Plato documented it in the Gorgias. He also said it is far worse to do wrong than to be //wronged//, that bit I do agree with. I would much rather be wronged by others that to do wrong unto them.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

Socrates wouldn't support your original premise. Excerpt from Socrates in Love, by Christopher Phillips "Socrates never declaimed against those who did not agree with him or would not listen to him. He never exhaorted his followers, after recieving his unjust death sentence, to exact revenge on his persecuters. Instead, he told them to reach out to others, in love, more than ever."

by Anonymous 7 years ago

He did indeed. His argument in the Gorgias was that people who seek to punish wrong doers are doing them a favor, and that ignoring them is more hurtful in the long run. He did not suggest that revenge was good only that ignoring wrongdoers //would// be a better revenge than punishing them.

What does this mean, darling? In English.

Some people believe in hell as a place where sinners go for everlasting torment. Those same ppl might also find fault with another person's actions and wish them punishment. They might even hate someone for their sins and seek revenge. For example they might think that deleting emails is a horrendous sin and seek to jail torture or even kill someone who was nasty enough to delete an email from a server - hypothetically of course. This post says that if you believe in hell and really want to stick-it-to some horrible evil email deleter that you are better off doing nothing so that the unbelievably horrid disgusting email deleting person will not repent and go to hell instead. It is sarcasm. But of course no one got it. So, um, whatever. I guess it got homepaged or something.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

Of course no one got it. hug We all feel that way about posts when we don't get the Comments we were expecting. My feelings around hell and damnation are dubious.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

Damnation is something that should not be wished on anyone, additionally, christians are called to love all, and condemning someone to hell is not very loving.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

People condemn themselves to Hell - not other people.

Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Stop trying to steal the Lord's vengeance. God wants to handle those people His way. Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

100% agree. I find it painful when people who claim to follow the teaching of Jesus demand punishment on earth for other's sins

by Anonymous 7 years ago

How did you get the idea that Jesus or His followers were not allowed to seek punishment for wrong doers?

by Anonymous 7 years ago

He told me not to. He told me to turn the other cheek. He told me not to judge. He told me to forgive trespassers Many of his misguided followers said otherwise.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

A) You're an atheist. You've rejected Jesus. B) Fair judgement, punishment of wrongdoers has solid, Biblical foundation.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

I rejected god. In my opinion he is the devil. I live by Jesus's lessons, I don't worship him, I considered him the perfect role model. I agree, the bible is all about punishment which is part of the reason I rejected god. But I didn't say anything about the bible, I said people who claim to follow Jesus http://data.amirite.net/user_images/582b9b3a11a2e.jpg

That's a confusing set of parameters. There are many themes in the Bible. The biggy is redemption and salvation. Your hero Jesus talks about it a lot - in the Bible. Peculiar if you think about it - you have a burr under your saddle over people claiming to follow Jesus - and yet, //you// follow Jesus. People are flawed Vic. You and I both know that. No one is perfect. That's the very reason we //need// Jesus. I pray that you find a way to get around the errors of man and mankind and renew your relationship with Jesus and His Father.

Not a chance, but thanks for good wishes. I have no problem with followers of Jesus, my only concern is when someone says they follow him and instead seeks to do the opposite of what he taught me. Sorry but someone who rejects people based on their past, place of origin, or lifestyle choices before spending time in their shoes does not get his message. Someone who thinks it is ok to kill others, or to judge others for killing, does not get his message. Someone who worries about money or material things, who protects possessions as if he actually owned them who thinks that money is something that is earned and needs to be hoarded, does not get his message. We are all human with lots of faults, but prayer will not cure our faults, only words and actions can do that.

You must hang with very different people than me. I don't know //anyone// that behaves in the ways you described.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

Your crowd must be reading a different words than those we read.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

What about behavior Vic? Who rejects people based on their past, place of origin? Being gay isn't a lifstyle choice. It's a perversion. And I don't need to spend time as a pervert to reject the behavior. The folks I hag with don't kill people. Society does judge those that do. And, it's consistent with Biblical teaching. You know, the book that Jesus refers to time and again. Words don't cure faults as I see it. "Sorry for beating the crap out of you, killing your dog and raping your daughter. So, we're good then?"

I forgive you my bother. Let us break bread together.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

I don't seek your forgiveness.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

It's ok, I give it freely

by Anonymous 7 years ago

I'm sorry I don't quite understand what you mean, bro :D
