-3 I think it's time for a single president to relate to the people they represent. If you have been married for 50 years you have no clue how hard it is to be single. Every financial evaluation is based on household not individual. this seems unfair, amirite?

Is it that hard to be single?

by Anonymous 5 years ago

I'd say twice as hard

There's an old saying, If you are happily married, the good times are twice as good, because they are shared. And the bad times are only half as bad... because they are shared. l

James Buchanan was the only lifelong bachelor to serve as US president. (there is a theory that he was gay: https://allthatsinteresting.com/james-buchanan-gay) There have been eight other presidents who were single during their presidential tenure: Thomas Jefferson (1801–1809): His wife Martha died in 1782, and Jefferson was a widower of 19 years when he was elected in 1800. Andrew Jackson (1829–1837): Jackson was elected in November 1828, and his beloved wife Rachel died of a heart attack in December 1828, after the election, but before he took office. Martin Van Buren (1837–1841): Jackson’s successor was also a widower when he took office; his wife Hannah had died in 1819 of tuberculosis. John Tyler (1841–1845): His wife, Letitia was ailing and an invalid when Tyler succeeded to the presidency upon the death of President Harrison. She die two years later, making Tyler the first president to become a widower while in office. Chester Arthur (1881–1885): Arthur’s wife Ellen died in January 1880, a few months before Arthur was elected vice president and, after Garfield’s assassination, he became president. Grover Cleveland (1885–1889): Cleveland was a bachelor when elected, and he married Frances Folsom in 1886, marking the only time when a president was married in the White House. Benjamin Harrison (1889–1893): Cleveland’s successor was married when elected, but his wife Caroline died in 1892, marking only the second time that a president’s spouse died in the White House. Woodrow Wilson (1913–1921): Wilson’s first wife, Ellen, died in 1914, during Wilson’s first term. He married his second wife, Edith, barely a year later, though, unlike Cleveland, they were married in a private ceremony outside the White House.

very thorough mr. Walt. Thank you. They say it's better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all.

It is true that single people do not get the same financial considerations by law, in many cases. They definitely do not get near as many tax *breaks* , for instance.

by Anonymous 5 years ago

why would people with children get a bigger tax return , they are the ones using more government programs.

by Anonymous 5 years ago

I figure that might be so those with children will be less inclined to *need* government assistance programs. Also...there is that sort of widely held belief, that dependent children ought have decent food, clothes, healthcare, and stuff.

that's fine give them that stuff ,,don't trust their parents with cash

The government and influencers of power have been trying to break up the family model years. They technically prefer everyone to be single, or at the least, both working. This allows the government to have as much control over your child's mind and the next generation. We're living in a sad world and it's getting worse fast.
