By definition symbiosis is a relationship between two species where both gain from the interaction. This could be more like protocooperation since for one side there is no gain but there is for the other.
Both gain, just not necessarily at the same time, though often. We help each other breathe, for one thing. When man eats the fruits of plants, gross as it may sound, his wastes can fertilize the soil so plants can continue to bear fruit. Ultimately man dies and may return to the soil, further fertilizing it. Of course, modernity has limited that aspect, but the innate symbiosis is one of the beauties of nature.
Not individually, but for others, it doesn't matter for the dead organism what happens afterwards. I agree about fertilization but what I meant was something like the little birds that pick food off of the hippo's teeth, they get to eat and the hippo gets cleaned for example
Bacteria are the true masters, they don't die, they just multiply. Predator or pray, great or small, powerful or weak, we all get decomposed by microorganisms
