+42 World maps don't have to be oriented the way they are. If Europe wasn't such a big powerhouse over the past centuries, our world maps we use today could have the southern hemisphere on the top and they would still make sense. amirite!

So then the south pole would be the north pole? And would you have to change the names of the American continents and the country of South Africa? How about the states of North and South Carolina and North and South Dakota?

As far as I know, mainstream depictions of the globe are all based on convenience for navigation rather than any other factor. So...maybe don't overthink?
